Dress for the Venue

We have been hosting our World Class Assistant™ high-end workshops in Las Vegas since 2005 at the beautiful Red Rock Country Club. I have watched hundreds of administrative professionals come through the program and am always amazed when a participant shows up for class looking like they are going to the Strip or shopping.

These attendees will even tell me or the group that they are going to dinner after class – or meeting someone after the workshop — or going to the outlets, or whatever and that is why they dressed the way they did for the workshop. However, they obviously are not dressed for the business event I am holding but rather for what they plan to do after the event.

I highly recommend you always dress for the venue. If it is a business-related event (which a business class, conference, or workshop is considered), then dress with intent for that event; how you want to be perceived by others; and that you are a representative for your organization.

What do you do if you have to go somewhere after the event? Bring clothes that you can change into later. For example when I have long flights home from a business trip, I want to dress more comfortably. Keep in mind that I am usually dressed in a business pant suit or skirt suit when I give presentations or conduct workshops. If I have time before my flight, I change into my more casual clothing at the airport, in the ladies’ room.

We have had attendees at our World Class Assistant program do that as well. Friday is the last day of class and many attendees fly out that afternoon. They bring their jeans or casual clothing to the Country Club and then when the program is over, they go into the ladies’ room and change so they are ready to travel.
