#15: Lahaina, Maui (Hawaii)

As far as beach vacations go, it doesn’t get any better than a trip to Hawaii, if you can manage to cough up the airfare. Maui is an exceptional island that combines the laid-back surfer lifestyle with all the modern amenities. Almost any beach you’ll stumble upon has crystal clear water and great snorkeling, but if you’re looking for something a little drier, check out the Maui Ocean Center. There, visitors can see spectacular live coral displays (the largest collection in the nation), enjoy playful swimming displays by Hawaii’s beloved green sea turtles, awe at close encounters with sharks, rays and more – while learning about Hawaii’s natural history and cultural heritage.

Our absolute favorite thing about Maui is the huge amount of fruit growing publicly. Shake a papaya or coconut tree at a local beach park and you’ve practically got lunch, for free!

Don’t Miss: The Gazebo Restaurant, poolside at the Napili Shores condos, has great breakfast and lunch food at great prices. There’s always a line, but sometimes if the time is right, you can see a whale emerging from the waves while waiting.
