Myrtle Potter, Myrtle Potter & Co.

9) Myrtle Potter, CEO, Myrtle Potter & Company

If she looks familiar, it’s probably because she’s a regular business contributor on MSNBC and CNBC.

Myrtle Potter is recognized as a leading figure in America’s healthcare business and a pioneer in the pharmaceutical industry. She’s got her own consultancy firm now, but between 2000 and 2005, Porter served as President and CEO of biotech giant Genentech. Before that, she was President of Bristol-Myers Squibb.

And before that, she worked at Merck where she oversaw the marketing campaign of Prilosec, one of the world’s best selling pharmaceutical products. She’s got way too many magazine shout-outs to name them all, but let’s just say that Week, Time, Fortune and even Glamour magazine have named her in their “best of” lists. To name a few.

Kelly Chapman, Microsoft

10) Kelly Chapman, Director, Diversity Recruiting, Microsoft

By day, she’s a high-powered HR executive. By night, she performs at venues nation-wide in support of her CD Real. And then there’s the book she published in 2008. Talk about a renaissance woman!

Before she joined the team, the software company was doing some work to diversify their talent pool. But it wasn’t until Ms. Chapman came on board that the company formalized the program, and invested substantially in its success.

Microsoft now spends $150 million in its efforts to attract diverse IT talent—particularly, women and minorities. The program also helps support these employees once they’ve come on board.
