It's just too much!  First of all, why does EVERY search I do result in "no results found.?"  It doesn't matter what I do.  Choose one industry or more, enter in one keyword, two, or ten, enter in my correct zip code and a radius.  NOTHING WORKS.  Is anybody else going through this insanity??  Secondly, I face so many obstacles to gaining part-time employment as an aging baby boomer, where should I start?  Age discrimination - for God's sakes, don't tell me it doesn't exist and reveal you age, no, check that, your gross ignoroance and stupidity, lack of a vehicle, a disaster of a work history, no certifications, and barely enough money to live on from month to month.

So, I go on a day at a time.  Any ideas?  Cost of buying, insuring, and maintaining a very old used car is out of the question.  Don't own a single suit.  Dye my hair?  Won't cover my ever-growing bald spot.  Live with over a hundred people in a HUD property that are wheelchair-bound and have diabetes, dementia, breathing problems, are in their 70s and 80s who are predominantly female, and so on.

Can't move on my income, either, here in the Panhandle area of Texas.  Vietnam era vet who came back to nothing and service-connected disability has had other physical conditions have piled upon for year after year.  Main reason why I'm only interested in part-time work and need an "open" or flexible work schedule.  Too many clinic appointments at the VA Medical Center.

If I had the skills, I'd just be content to get away from all humanity and live in a small log cabin or tent in the middle of nowhere.

Last, but not least, if I had to tell someone where my family was, I'd have a simple one word answer.  DEAD.  Yes, all of them.

You know how to get job search results - please let me know how.  Also, what is wrong with the server today?  Tried to join two other discussion forums only to get the following error message:  "503 Service Unavailable/No server is available to handle this request."

Is anybody experiencing this problem or aware of it?

It is not your imagination.  For every job posting you do see, there are at least 100 people applying for that same job as you.

I too, was recently a victim of age discrimination at the hands of a manager of one of the local staffing agencies here in my town.  She flat out told me, (with no witnesses present), that I was old, outdated and there would be no way she would consider placing me in any type of position she had available.  I reminded her that her statement was "not legal" but she also reminded me that there were no witnesses present.  I ended the interview and thanked you for her candidness and time. 

I eventually found a permanent position on my own and shortly thereafter received an e-mail from the manager at the staffing agency asking me if I was still available and telling me she finally had an assignment for me.  I replied back with a thank you, but also told her that despite my old and outdated age, I managed to secure a job on my own with an organization which did not discriminate against older persons.  I wished her the best of luck with her agency and left it at that.  More importantly, I have spread the word amongst my peers not to seek job placement assistance from her agency.  This all backfired on her because she will eventually be without sufficient staff therefore making it difficult for her to meet the needs of her clients.  This is a small town and word travels quickly here.  In case you wish to know, do not sign up with BOS Staffing in Athens, GA unless you are fresh out of High School or College and have an appearance that closely resembles a Barbie Doll.
