How many interviews does it take?

Posted 25 days ago Seems like if you are lucky to get an interview, they ask you thousands of questions about your past jobs, and at the end tell you they will be in touch with you, and you never hear from them. On some when I called back they told me that the position was already filled about the time that I had my initial interview. Mean to tell me that someone already had that second interview before I had my first? Or I see that ad posted again for the same position I interviewed for which tells me that none of the applicicants were good or they are still looking for more. On average how many interviews does the average admin go through to get a job? I am asking how many Different places does the administrative assistant go to before a second interview or finally an offer comes along? Any thoughts, advice or comments welcome. |

| Posted 25 days ago Hi Swoital, I can certainly relate to your situation as I had somewhat of a similiar experience not too long ago. I was given a phone interview for the, let's say the first round of interviews to which the Human Resouce Associate briefly mentioned the benefits of the position. I was granted a first formal interview to which I believe that I did extremely well and the HR Associate explained in detail the company benefits to each tier of medical insurance, dental insurance, 401K, stock options, etc. etc. Then I receive an e-mail stating that the second round of interviews has been delayed, but that they wanted to inform me on this as they did not want me to think that they had forgotten about me. Then after about a month; I received a call from the HR Dept. to inform me that I did not make the second round of interviews, however; I was very close. What I'm realizing is that due to there being no sort of legal standardized format of the interviewing process, some employers methods are insensitive, misleading, and unprofessional. In other words, in todays competitive job market, they certainly can do what they want for interviewing without any remorse. It's a fact that us unemployed have to expect. Sorry, that I do not have an answer for you regarding the rounds of interviews before hiring, but it appears to be more than it was ten and even five years ago. Keep trying, the more you swing, sooner or later you will hit something. Admin101 |

| Posted 18 days ago A recent job I applied for, I had 3 interviews: an initial phone interview, a face to face with a couple of the dept managers, and a 3rd with the general manager and operations manager (who I'd actually report to). The final interview was almost 3 weeks ago. I finally heard back from them today that they went with an internal candidate. Then again, I went through the same process with another company, and last week I saw they were relisting the job. They never bothered to even let me know what was going on after all the time I'd put in. I find many companies, especially when the job market is on their side, to be very insensitive to job applicants. I can't tell you how many never acknowledge an application submitted (which is bad enough), but the ones that get me are when you actually interview and they never bother to let you know what happened. Even a postcard would be nice just so you're not sitting around waiting for a call that isn't coming. One thing I often do when starting a new job is check with the boss to see if those others who interviewed received a call or letter. If they haven't, I make it a point to type up the letters for the boss's signature and send them out. |
