Ok, in my whole career I have NEVER had a 2nd interview.  I know that sounds weird but my first office job I had for almost 16 years before being laid off in 2003.  For that job I went on one interview and I was offered the job the next day via phone...it all went pretty quick as I was interviewed on a wednesday...offered the job on a thursday and started the job the following monday.  I know in today's day and age one knows they have a good chance of getting the job if they get a 2nd interview.  But the dilemma is what to wear?  I know something different from the first interview.  Just so you know I haven't been called for a 2nd interview yet but better to be prepared.

In my experience the 2nd interview is to basically negotiate the job offer.  I would say wear the same thing as you would for a regular interview and be just as prepared.

I would wear something like what you would wear to the first interview, except you can be a little less formal. Maybe a brown suit instead or you pinstripes, for example, or maybe a colorful belt instead of a plain black one. This is a great time to show your personality and to stand out. You want them to see what it will be like to work with you and see more than your resume or the cut and dry things they found out during the first interview.

I've had a brand new experience......I went on my first interview in May..........second and third interview in July........and had a psychological test and interview with the psychologist (also in July).........I've had to take off work 4 times now and it is now August and I have not heard anything yet!  I'm stymied at their process...........I've never been through this type of interview process before.  It's been rigorous and it is making me think twice about working for their company.  I have visions of paranoia lurking around every corner.......Any comments?

I'd be a bit concerned too if a company put me through all that!! Makes one wonder if they are a bit overconcerned about people going postal.  If I were you I'd be asking the company a lot of behavorial questions.  You have the right to see if the company is a good fit for you.

Thank you for your comments......this is the conclusion I'm coming to also, but it's nice to know "I'm" not paranoid....lol.

lilbit, WILL you be working for the post office?

I work for the gov't and they do an intense background check, but nothing is done until after you are hired. There is a customary probation period where, if they can't secure a clearance on you, you can be let go. The hiring process regardless can take up to 6 months.  If you are looking to feed your family and need a job now, I recommend moving on to other prospects.

It sounds to me that this employer has been burned before.  I would be weary.

No, it's not a government job.  It was a private company.  Also, something I as not accustomed to.  I've moved onto greener pastures anyway.  It was just a weird weird experience.  I learned a lot from it.

Hello Everyone

I have been an at home mom for 11 years and between that time I worked 3 years as an administrative assistant.  I recently applied for a well known company (2nd time mind you), and was given a telephone interview.  After the interview the recruiter gave me an appointment for a second interview.   The interview went well, and it really seemed promising, however, I received the same denial letter (email) once again from this company.  This was an entry level position!  :(  I'm in tears this morning.

I cant seem to land employment yet alone an interview, with the exception of my recent one.  Can someone please give me some type of advice.  I dressed well, was articulate, kept eye contact and really sold myself.  I have even applied for a part-time at Burger King and they gave me the same response as all 10 of the other companies I've applied for.  I am very discouraged.

Hi Barbie,

The road to success is not straight. There is a curb called Failure, a loop called Confusion; speed bumps called Friends; red lights called Enemies; caution lights called Family. You will have flats called jobs.

But, if you have a spare called Determination; an engine called Perseverance; insurance called Faith,

and a driver called GOD, you will make it to a place called Success!!

So don't loosen, keep trying.........with positive attitude......

Thanks & regards,

Umesh

Umesh

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.  I am a firm believer in God!  Yet, being human ,it is very dissapointing after submitting so many resume's and applications.   I wish there were a way that someone could explain to me exactly what I am doing wrong, or what  the employers are basing their decision on.

Thanks again

BlackBarbie36

P.S.       Maybe I'll run away and join the circus!   LOL

Barbie, I'm going through the same exact frustrations as you are and like you I wish I could have someone tell me what I was doing wrong so I could fix it.  There's been times that I've felt that the hiring personnel hired someone at a cheaper salary then me and wish that they had tried to just make me an offer.  I might've accepted depending on how low they went.

Ok, I had a 1st interview yesterday... it was a behavioral interview of which I dislike.  The interview was for a data entry/admin. assistant position.  Overall I feel the interview went ok but I did stumble on at least one question because they caught me off guard.  BTW, I was being interviewed by 3 people at once...the team leader, the hiring manager and the HR manager.  The question they caught me off guard with is "why did you do a career change and take such a degrading job as your last job?"   I told them that at the time I was taking care of my stroke victim mother and that I could only devote so much time to a position so I only took a part time position. But now that she was no longer in need, I could get back to devoting my life to an office career.  Would you have phrased that another way?

Am hoping that I'm not out of the running for the position that I interviewed for last thursday (the one where they caught me off guard).  They advertised the position that they interviewed me for yesterday.   Granted they hadn't advertised the position prior to interviewing me, only reason I had found out about it is they had advertised another position, filled that and then emailed me to let me know they filled it and asked if I'd be interested in this one.  Can you tell I'm a worry wart?

Here's an article I just put up that addresses a 'role playing' interview.

I went to an interview on Weds (as the CEO's assistant), it was way too easy, they asked me questions that obviously were addressed in my resume and application for the job. The next interview will be Tuesday next week with the CEO himself. I will dress nicer, as he is the final approval for me to be hired.

Lucky you, Jewelsmom. I'm still waiting to hear from the last interview and am thinking I didn't get it.  My guess is I dressed too nicely and cleanly and my references were too good.  Ha ha!

I have the same situation as Barbie.  Have been sending applications and landed some interviews but can't seem to get the job.  I've revised my resume several times, read on business and interview tips online but still no success.  I just have a few months experience in administrative assistant position as I have been working in call center industry for several years.  I don't know if that's the problem but my work experience in the call center operations has given me the skills and knowledge to do the administrative tasks as well but I guess employers are after the length of experience I am applying for.  Could this be true?  With prices of everything getting higher, my husband & I need some extra income already

I am glad I am not alone in this job search situation. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BEING ABLE TO WALK IN TO A PLACE TO SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION. I feel that I don't  stand a chance. I am 54 years old, worked my entire adult life, and have customer service and work experience galore! But I did not grow up with a computer mouse in my hand.  Forgive me ! I am still going on interviews for call centers, but that is not what I want. I live in Utah , are we  CALL CENTER CENTRAL OR WHAT??

Hey Debval, I'm a lot like you.... only mouse there was around when I was growing up was an actual rodent.  Didn't have computers until I was a teenager and even then those were the keyboards that you hooked up to the TV to play games.  Hang in there!! Something will come up.
