I thought this would be a good question for these economic times.

My husband has been out of work now for 3 months. He is trying to find a job with no luck. He is in the IT field and has only a few years on the job experience. He has an associates in Computer Networking and is working on another associates for programming as well as his bachelors for Information Security Systems.

My boyfriend just got laid off, too.  It's scary, but I know we'll pull through because we saw it coming and saved up, and he's applying for other jobs all over the place.

Did you see in the news the other day about the woman who made a website devoted to getting her husband a job?  She called it  www.myhusbandneedsajob.com!!

My spouse was laid off 2 weeks after we got custody of his oldest grandchild.  That was tough.  I couldn't handle the 14 year old and my husband not working but me having to come home from working 9 hours only to clean up after both of them and cook their dinner.  I decided to move out.  Three days after signing a lease I was laid off.  Thank God for severance packages!!!

Oh no, that's horrible! Are you still separated?

Luckily, my husband still has a job. Crossing fingers!

My fiance keeps saying that he hopes he gets laid off. He works 3rd at a factory, and he's a musician (who actually makes money). I told him that if he did get laid off, it would be the end of our relationship.

He thinks that housework, cooking, shopping, etc. is easy. He is NOT good with helping out, but since he earns extra money as a musician, I let him off the hook a little more. He also doesn't mind working OT at his factory job to make extra.

If he got laid off, the FIRST time I came home to a messy house or had to scrounge for dinner, I would pack my bags, grab the baby and leave.

If you're not gonna earn money, you're gonna get the house clean and get meals made. I just know in my heart that if he wasn't able to earn money, he wouldn't even be close on the cleaning and meals, and it would make me resent him to the max.

If he was Mr. Mom, and if my paycheck would cover (we'd have to stretch, but I could likely support the three of us with his gig money to supplement) fine. But if I'm working and he's just playing his horn, I won't do one lick of housework or cook except for fun.

I dunno, I think that even if you do make money you have a responsibility to take care of your home, feeding yourself, and the family.

My husband was laid off not long after we first started dating, but he is incredibly driven and had income right away from his freelance work. On the flip, when I was forced to leave a job (due to excessive harassment), he made it very clear that he'd support me if I needed him to until I could find work. I'm too proud to accept that sort of thing, but it's nice to know that we can - as partners - support each other when we're weak. Why else would you enter into a relationship?

My husband and I both got laid off.  Since the layoff, he's had a major flare of his fibromyalgia, so I'm pushing him to apply for disability.  I'm working on starting my VA business while I have unemployment to help us stay afloat.

It's hard for everyone right now.  Luckily, though, it's just us.  We don't have kids to support, just dogs and cats.  Things are tight, but we'll manage.
