I really wanted this job  and felt I met all the qualifications.  My interview was 45 minutes  long and got along with the interviewer very  well.      I felt so good  after that  phone call and was sure to get asked back for a one on one.  The next day I was writting a thank note and emailed it.  No sooner than I hit send I got an email from  him thanking me for my time but they had several people they were considering and thanked me for my time.

I was devasted!!!  and now I feel like maybe I said something wrong or did a reference say something bad.

Should I email him and ask him what was the deciding factor?

Maybe that was his response to let you know that he received your email and that you were still in the pool of qualified candidates. as it is written, I certainly didn't take it to be a rejection letter.

  Good Luck!

You could email him and politely ask what factors were the company considering in hiring the individual.  More than likely he will respond that they are looking for someone more experienced.

Don't give up the search and don't let their decision get you down! Look at it this way, they are missing out on a great candidate and you will find a job that is a better fit for you in which you will opportunities to grow with the company, have a great salary, benefits, and a super-boss!

Good luck!
