This, Not That: HEALTHY Office Snacks to Order for the Breakroom

Fresh, whole foods versus processed food.

Fresh Fruit: Think apples, oranges, bananas – colorful, nutritious and everyone will enjoy them. Furthermore, people can supplement them with other kitchen foods for balanced snacks (think cheese, peanut butter, oatmeal, etc.)

Other winners: Dried fruit with no added sugar or coating, Sensible Foods Dried Fruit

Kellog’s Nutri-Grain Fruit Bars: Don’t let the blue wrapper on the outside of the “Blueberry Bar” trick you into actually believing you are eating a serving of blueberries. Think more along the lines of turning into a huge blueberry like Violet in Willa Wonka. These suckers pack 11g of sugar, 2g of fiber and 2g of protein into a 130 calorie bar. In fact, the #1 ingredient in this “whole grain” bar is high-fructose corn syrup. The only redeeming thing about these bars are the added vitamins and minerals, but it’s easier for your body to absorb nutrients from whole foods – calcium from cheese and B-vitamins and iron from nuts and oatmeal (oh wow, how crazy those foods are on this list!)
