With all the news of schools and businesses closing, it's important to take precautions now to prepare so you can avoid a change in productivity. You need to know that you have options.  For example, employees can work remotely from their own home and be able to do practically everything they did at the office.  And fortunately today, working virtually has never been easier. From setting up web conferences to connecting to the office computer or sending emails and documents from home, work can easily be accomplished much like when you are in the office.

Kelly Poelker and Diana Ennen, both long-time virtual assistants and business support experts, are the authors of Virtual Assistant - The Series: Working Virtually, A Guide to Working Remotely As An Employee and the Virtual Assistant the Series books available at http://www.va-theseries.com.  The authors state that to be successful you need to know what programs and tools you will need to conduct business.  For example, through your home computer you can connect directly to the office computer utilizing programs such as GoToMyPC or LogMeIn. If you need to do transcription from home you need to look into digital transcription equipment.  How about connecting with other employees?  Outside of phone communication and email you can do so with instant messaging, and social networking features such as Twitter and Facebook. "Most everything done in the office these days can be done at home-including filing!" says Poelker.

Businesses find it beneficial to work remotely for many reasons. Most recently for health reasons, but also they find overall it improves morale, productivity, and helps them save on the bottom line. Employees at all levels, not just managers and executives, can benefit from not being tied to their office when work needs to be done.  Why stay late at the office when you could just as easily work from the comfort of your own home, or even a kids soccer game?  Do you dread those office meetings that consume so much of your work time, get rid of them. It's just as easy to connect to everyone online through Skype or GoToMeeting, plus you save time and money.  Ennen says, "Working business better and smarter is your goal."

Virtual Assistant - The Series: Working Virtually provides crucial information that puts you well on your way to working virtually. Also, for those who wish to start their own virtual assistant business, it does provide the essentials for setting up your home office, including the necessary equipment and software.  It's been reported that freelance opportunities are on the rise because of the economy and more companies are hiring independent contractors because they can't afford full-time staff. Discover how easy it is to do just that.
